Comox Engagement Session at Seal Bay

A forest & sea engagement session at Seal Bay, Comox

A few weeks ago, on a moody January day in Comox, I met Emily and Kyle in Comox for their engagement session. We were originally planning to make a trip up to Hardwicke Island, just off Vancouver Island, where Kyle’s family has property for an adventure session. Ultimately, with COVID restrictions in place and the unpredictable Vancouver Island January weather, we decided to stick closer to home instead. In the end, Seal Bay, in Comox, made for the perfect engagement session location.

We got allllll the moody forest and ocean vibes we had been envisioning. I highly recommend checking this location out if you’re in the Comox area. I’ve been to Seal Bay for another engagement session a few years ago, and the walls of ferns never get old. After walking down a winding trail through the forest, you end up at a secluded rocky beach. Sea lions and seals will probably poke their heads up out of the calm water to say welcome!

Kyle is a commercial fisherman, so he spends many months away at a time for work. We chatted about how difficult that can be (cell service is very limited at sea!), and how they truly make the most of their time together when he’s back home in Comox. I’ve had to do long distance with my S.O. before, but I can’t imagine being able to at least communicate by text every day. It’s a testament to the strength of E + K’s relationship and I’m so excited for them to be getting married!

Feeling nervous about your engagement session?

Trust me, most people do! This was E + K’s first time getting professional photos taken together and they absolutely nailed it. A lot of couples tend to be a bit nervous for their engagement session or wedding. I hear “just a warning, we’re super awkward in front of the camera” before almost every shoot I do! My number one goal when working with couples is to make sure you feel comfortable in front of the camera. I do this by giving you direction, cues, and prompts to get you laughing and feeling the love. By the end of the session, I am often told “that was actually so much fun!” Engagement sessions are like a super fun and out-of-the-box date night (with your own professional third wheel!).

Check out E + K’s photos and message me through my contact form below the gallery if you’re interested in setting up an engagement session!
