A West Coast Destination Wedding
Bethany and Kendal kicked off my wedding season in the best way possible! It was an honour photographing their intimate, west coast celebration at the Black Rock Resort in Ucluelet.
They made the trip from Alberta, along with many of their guests, to celebrate on the edge of the Pacific. It was a small, close-knit gathering — the kind of wedding where everyone knows each other and the whole day just feels easy. The vibe was relaxed, full of laughs, and completely true to who they are. The ocean views, the salty breeze, and that golden hour light? Unreal. It was one of those evenings where everything just clicked — the kind of magic you hope for in a Black Rock Resort wedding.
Why I Love Black Rock Resort Weddings
The Black Rock is one of my favourite wedding venues on Vancouver Island. It’s in Ucluelet, which is a destination on its own (it’s close to Tofino, but you want even want to leave!). The resort is right on the rugged coastline with sweeping ocean views and those epic west coast sunsets. From a photography perspective, it’s (literally) right on the Wild Pacific Trail so we have gorgeous backdrops steps away. It offers the perfect mix of natural beauty and cozy, laid-back vibes so it feels distinctly Vancouver Island. Every Black Rock Resort wedding feels unique, and it’s always such a pleasure to capture the magic of this stunning place.
Not to mention, I love venues that offer accommodations as well, so you can stay with your guests and extend the party from one day to a weekend (or longer)!
A Personal Touch to End the Night
One of my favourite moments from Bethany and Kendal’s wedding day? The night wrapped up with a custom game of Jeopardy made just for them. Everyone was very much invested!
This one set the bar high for the season, and I’m so grateful I got to be there to capture it.
